Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I register for the NHLBI Strategic Visioning Forum?

Click on “Register” in the top navigation bar (on the top right) and fill out the required information. You will be asked for your e-mail address, name, location, and whether you are registering as a representative of an organization.

I see that the Forum uses IdeaScale. I already have an IdeaScale account. How do I get added to the NHLBI Strategic Vision Forum community?

If you already have a login for IdeaScale, log in using your credentials and click Join this Community at the top of the page. You may be asked to enter a few additional details for the purpose of joining the NHLBI Strategic Visioning Forum.

How do I log into the SV forum if I've already registered? Why do I need to log in?

To log in, click on "log in" on the right-hand side of the navigation bar on top of the Forum. You do not need to log in to browse through the questions and challenges that have already been submited. However, in order to participate in the NHLBI Strategic Visioning community - i.e. submitting ideas, voting and commenting on ideas, and sharing ideas via e-mail - you will need to log in.

What is a compelling question or critical challenge? Why do I have to submit my idea in the form of a compelling question or critical challenge?

To focus our Strategic Visioning efforts, the NHLBI is specifically seeking the public's input on the most compelling questions we must answer and the critical challenges we must overcome to achieve our four strategic goals. This format allows more efficient review of the ideas submitted. The main NHLBI Strategic Visioning page has more details about Compelling Questions and Critical Challenges.

How do I submit a compelling question or critical challenge?

Once you are logged in, click the red Submit New Question/Challenge button at the top of the right-hand sidebar. Fill in the required information and click the Submit button at the lower-right portion of the window.

Do I have to fill in all the details for my idea?

Additional information on the compelling questions and critical challenges, such as feasibility and impact, is optional. However, adding details can help us understand why your idea is important to NHLBI's mission, and may initiate conversations with other users who can endorse your idea.

How do I add comments to a compelling question or critical challenge?

You can add comments to a compelling question or critical challenge that has already been posted by yourself or another user. To do this, navigate to the question/challenge and click the add comment link.

What are keywords and tags and how do I enter them?

Keywords, also known as tags, allow submitters to assign topics to a submitted Question/Challenge so that they can be more easily aggregated and so other forum users can see related Questions and Challenges. Keywords can be multiple word phrases (e.g. “cardiovascular disease”). There is a minimum of 1 keyword per submitted idea; however, a submitter can add as many keywords as they like. When entering keywords, separate them using commas.

What is voting? How do I vote on a critical challenge or compelling question?

The concept of crowdsourcing allows you to vote on what you believe are the most compelling questions and critical challenges that the NHLBI should consider addressing in its priority setting, decision making, and resource allocation. To vote for any challenge or question, simply click the up arrow next to the idea. You can also vote against an idea by clicking the down arrow.

How do I find other people’s compelling questions and critical challenges?

You can find other people’s ideas for compelling questions and critical challenges by browsing for them. Scroll down the home page and click on “recent” or “popular” to see ideas sorted by date entered or by votes. To see ideas within a specific strategic goal, you can click on each of the individual strategic goal. You can also click on keywords to find ideas that have been tagged with specific keywords. Finally, you can type in text into the search box in the top right-hand corner to search for that text in other ideas.

How do I search for ideas?

You can type in text into the search box in the top right-hand corner to search for that text in other ideas. The search tool supports the operators AND, OR, and NOT (e.g. you can search for "clinical AND trials" to find all ideas that have both the word "clinical" and the word "trials"). For more details on how to use these operators, please see this IdeaScale support page.

How do I see the full details of an idea, including impact and feasibility?

If you click on the title of an idea, you will get to the idea’s page. Here, you will be able to see the full details, including what people have entered under impact and under feasibility and challenges.

How do I edit my ideas?

Click on the title of an idea to bring up the idea’s page. Under the title of the idea, you should see the line “[E-Mail] [Follow] [Comment] [Edit]”. Click on “Edit” to edit the idea.

How do I share an idea with other people by e-mail?

If you want to e-mail an idea to others, click on the title of an idea to bring up the idea’s page. Under the title of the idea, you should see the line "[E-Mail] [Follow] [Comment]" . Click on “E-Mail” to e-mail a link to the idea to others.

How do I share an idea with other people using social media such as Facebook or Twitter?

Click on the title of an idea to bring up the idea’s page. After the idea details, you should see the Facebook and Twitter logos. You can click on the respective logos to share the idea using Facebook or Twitter.

I made a mistake in entering my details on the custom fields! How can I change this?

Unfortunately, this isn't that easy to do if you do not know your IdeaScale member ID. Please send your revised details in an e-mail to NHLBI_Vision@mail.nih.gov and the Forum administrator will change the details for you.

If you know your member ID (it's the 5-digit number that appears in the URL when you click on your user name in the top navigation bar and click on "Notifications"), you can access and amend your profile details by going to http://nhlbistrategicvisioning.ideascale.com/a/profile?member-id=XXXXX where XXXXX is your member ID number. For example, if your member ID is 99999, you would go to http://nhlbistrategicvisioning.ideascale.com/a/profile?member-id=99999.
